Privacy & Data Protection
This page explains how MarkAssist handles personal data, uploaded materials, AI-assisted processing, and platform usage information. It is designed to help schools, teachers, and administrators understand how data is used within the service.

How AI is used
MarkAssist uses AI to support tasks such as:
- - transcription of uploaded responses
- - analysis of student writing against selected criteria or frameworks
- - generation of structured feedback and next-step guidance
- - contextual use of stored supporting material attached to a question
MarkAssist is designed as a decision-support tool. Teacher review remains an important part of the workflow.
Supporting material and question context
Where a school or department uploads supporting material for a question, such as extracts, source text, poem pages, or image stimuli, MarkAssist may use that material as question context during analysis. This is intended to improve contextual accuracy and feedback quality.
Data minimisation and retention
We aim to process only the information needed to provide the service. Where retention periods are not yet fixed, we apply retention criteria based on operational need, school usage, account status, support, and legal obligations.
Security
We aim to apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect information processed through the platform.
Third-party services
MarkAssist may use third-party service providers to support hosting, authentication, storage, email, and AI processing.
Roles and responsibilities
In most school use cases, the school is likely to act as the controller for school-related personal data, and MarkAssist / Paideia Tech is likely to act as a processor providing the service. This should be confirmed in school-facing terms and agreements.
Rights and transparency
Individuals may have rights in relation to personal data, including rights such as access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and, where applicable, portability.
